In partnership with LATINA Style Magazine, Wells Fargo
continues to support Latina
business owners through the memorial
business fund and award
created to commemorate the achievements of
Anna Maria Arias, one of the foremost advocates for Latina empowerment and
the founder of LATINA Style Magazine. The Fund recognizes the accomplishments and successes of Latina
businesswomen who exemplify the principles and ideals which Arías
championed. Criteria used to select
the winners included business innovation, success and community service.
The awards, which
will be presented at the United
States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) national conference September
15, 2005 demonstrate Wells Fargo’s ongoing commitment to one of the
fastest growing small business segments. According to the latest U.S. census
data (1997), Latinos own more than one million small businesses nationwide –
almost half of which are owned by Latinas. These Latina-owned firms employ over
200,000 people and generate over $30 billion in annual sales. To address the phenomenal growth of
Latino-owned businesses, in 1997 Wells Fargo became the first major financial
services provider with a program specifically for Latino business owners,
establishing a public lending goal of $1 billion that was later increased to $3
billion over 10 years. To date, Wells Fargo has lent over $2.2 billion to
Latino-owned businesses nationwide.
