Business & Marketing

Synovate releases study showing Hispanics are less likely to make financial transactions online than general market consumers.

According to the Synovate survey 25 percent of Hispanics in the United States have made a recent purchase online, compared to 57 percent in the general market. Hispanics also are less likely to participate in online banking, with only 24 percent doing so compared to 38 percent of general market consumers.

Denise Marks, vice president of Diversity Research at Synovate says, “As more Hispanics and African Americans spend time online, marketing efforts should be directed towards building trust among these consumers to help them feel comfortable about online commercial transactions.”

The Institute for Business & Home Safety publishes its Disaster Planning toolkit for small businesses in Spanish.

The Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) announced today that its Open for Business(R) disaster planning toolkit is now available in Spanish. At least ¼ of all businesses that close because of a disaster never reopen, according to IBHS. Small businesses are especially vulnerable, because few of them have the resources or knowledge to assess disaster risks and develop comprehensive loss prevention and recovery plans. The IBHS Open for Business(R) toolkit helps small businesses do such planning by determining essential business functions and organizing critical operations -- even from a remote location. Thousands of copies of the booklet are in circulation across the country and more than 80,000 have been downloaded from the IBHS web site.

Recent study on Gingivitis indicates that gum disease affects one out of every two adults in the United States, including Hispanics.
Data from a government health agency shows that gingivitis, a form of gum disease, affects one out of every two adults in America, including Hispanics. Mexican-Americans have one of the highest percentages of prevalence. Gingivitis is an early stage of gum disease caused by build up of dental plaque. When left untreated it can progress to a more serious stage, periodontitis, a leading cause of tooth loss.(ii) Moreover, the majority of adults do not realize that they may be affected by gingivitis as they are unaware of the symptoms, including reddened gums, swelling and bleeding.
